Walter David 'Dave' Heinlen, Sr. married Joan ‘Joni' Ellen Lehman on November 8, 1958 in Des Moines, Iowa.

‘Dave' Jr. was born in Des Moines, IA and is now a geologist in Tulsa, OK. William ‘Derek‘ was born in San Mateo, CA and is now with Merck Pharmaceuticals in Melbourne, FL. Heidi Kristin was born in Enid, OK and is now a Registered Nurse in San Antonio, TX. Jonathan Edward was born in Tulsa, OK and is now a Urology Resident at Oklahoma Medical Center, Oklahoma City, OK. Holly Kathleen was born in Tulsa, OK. She married Matthew E. Case and now resides in Jenks, OK where she is a part-time educator and "Mom".

Dave Sr. graduated from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa.

He attended Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force on February 4, 1964.

Dave arrived at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma where he became a member of Class 65-F. He was assigned to 3575th Pilot Training Wing, 3576th Pilot Training Squadron, Flight 3, 'Speedy' where he flew the T-37B 'Tweet', with Patrick G. Claxton as his instructor.

Part way through our T-37B training, the class was split in half and Dave was reassigned to the Flight 4, 'Warlock' in the 3576th Pilot Training Squadron. While in Warlock flight, his instructors were Thomas E. Spear, Kenneth Eugene Moore and John J. Schultz.

In advanced flight training, he was assigned to Flight 1, 'Mojack' where he flew the supersonic T-38A 'Talon', which was also known as 'The White Rocket'. His instructor was Donald E. McCarter.

On Saturday morning, March 20, 1965, he graduated and was awarded his Pilot Wings.

Dave accepted an assignment to Pilot Instructor Training and became a T-38A Instructor Pilot at Vance Air Force Base.

Dave remained at Vance Air Force Base as an instructor until March 1969. In November 1970 he joined the Oklahoma Air National Guard, 138th Fighter Wing, where he flew the F-100D 'Super Saber' and later the A-7D 'Corsair II'.

After retirement, Dave owned and operated StowAway, Inc. where they manufactured wheelchair and scooter lifts. He enjoyed boating, fishing, horseback riding, golf, traveling, reading, and a good time. He also enjoyed buying, owning, raising, and selling horses.

Joni returned to school at the University of Tulsa and graduated in May 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Dave and Joni were divorced in December 1998 and Dave remarried in January 1999.

Dave died on December 4, 2003 in Pryor, Oklahoma from a Brain Abscess. His remains were cremated.

Joni is shown in the photo to left along with her five children, their spouses and eleven grandchildren ages twenty-seven to two.
