The son of Roy & Magdalene Gibson Abney, and a native of Alabama, Mr. Abney moved to Ft. McCoy in 1985.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Abney Davis; sons, Samuel Robert Abney Jr., and Scott Edward Davis; daughters, Brenda Elaine Abney, and Farrah Lee Davis; mother, Magdalene Abney; brothers, David, Charles, Ronald, Terry Abney, Donald and Donnie Abney; and three grandchildren.
