Theressa Audrey Clarke, recent resident of Austin, Texas passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 13, 2010 with both of her daughters by her side. She was 89 years old. She is survived by two devoted daughters Wendolyn Wiley and Gwendolyn Easter and by her beloved son, Herbert Clarke, and her treasured son-in-law, Alvin Easter. Her special grandchildren, Berard Wiley, Ashley Easter, Danielle, Ashlee, and Karl Clarke. Theressa was born in Shreveport, LA March 8, 1920 and moved to Marshall, TX with her family when she was 6 years old, where she grew up. She graduated from high school and went on to earn a bachelor of arts degree in languages from Bishop College in Marshall.

After completing her education, Theressa wanted to see the world. She began her passion for travel by joining the Red Cross and being stationed on Guam in 1945, where she met and married Herbert W. Clarke after returning to the United States. After remaining in the U.S. for several years, her husband, a career Army soldier, was assigned to an engineering company and sent to post WWII Germany, to help rebuild the country. Theressa lived there with her husband, and adopted twin daughters. The family adopted a son in Germany, Herbert, which completed the family.

Theressa lived in Ft. Lewis, WA in 1960, prior to moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in California from 1963. She worked in San Francisco as a civil servant before operating two businesses in the East Bay area, a bail bond agency and later a travel agency, where she lived until moving to Austin in January, 2006.

Her travels continued from cruises on the South China Seas, to visiting many Eastern European countries, including Bulgaria, where she was interviewed on Bulgarian television. She was also kissed by a camel near the pyramids in Cairo, Egypt.

Theressa was very excited about moving to Austin, near the Lakeway area. She felt at home and was particularly welcomed by her church members and Rev. Parker Jameson at St. Lukes on the Lake.

Her family would like to thank all of the well wishers and also Hospice Austin for helping to make her last days as comfortable as possible. She would also like to thank Dr. Gil Roebuck, for taking such good care of her, including making calls on weekends to see how she was doing.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis in Lakeway.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Hudson Bend Cemetery with Reverend Parker Jameson officiating. Memorial services are planned at a later time at the Church by the Side of the Road, Berkeley, CA. Date and time to be announced.
