Age 95, of Newark died at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. Services were held at St. Michael's Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial in Newark Cemetery. Memorials in his name may be made to the St. Michael's Church, 401 South Main Street, Newark, New York 14513. Mr. Taylor was born in Lyons on March 22, 1914, the son of the late DeRoy and Iva Gannett Taylor. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church and for many years helped with the rummage sales. He graduated from Newark High School in 1933, where he was a sportsman playing baseball, basketball and football. Leon was a life-long dairy farmer in the Newark area. He was a member of the New York State Dairy Association and the National Dairy Association. A 4H leader for many years, Leon was also a life member of the Newark Grange. He belonged to the Arcadia Senior Citizens and volunteered for over ten years as a driver for Meals on Wheels. Mr. Taylor served as Vice President of the Newark School Board from 1955 to 1964. He enjoyed watching all sports on TV and especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren. Leon is survived by his wife, Dorothy Finewood Taylor, with whom he celebrated his 74th wedding anniversary on September 14. Also surviving are his children Elaine Lannon of Newark, William (Sherriall) of Denton, TX., John W. (Eileen) of Newark and Kathleen (Gary) Schancer of Albuquerque, NM, ten grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, a great great-granddaughter; two sisters Lettie Farrell of Phelps and Doris Payne of Harmony, NC., several nieces and nephews.
