Miles Davis turned 40 and lost his wife four months after the Civil War began. When he joined Bone's Company, he left behind nine motherless children, ranging from newborn to 15 years old. He survived the war and rejoined his children in Grayson County, Texas. He was living at home with three of his children in 1870 and two sons in 1880. In 1900, at age 78, he lived with his son Alfred Rufus.
