ST. HELENA — Funeral services for John McCormick, 91, prominent rancher and former member of the Napa County Board of Supervisors, will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Hans Jensen Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert F. Hansen, pastor of St. Helena Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Webber, Joe Moore, Ed Ball, former Napa County officials, all of Napa; George Moore of Winters; Charles Tamagni, who succeeded Mr. McCormick on the board of supervisors, and Leslie Merriam, both of St. Helena.

Active pallbearers will be Mario Vasconi, Harold Smith Sr., Philo Grant, Charles Colpi, Judge Lowell Palmer and Jack C. Richardson, all of St. Helena.

Burial will be in the family plot in St. Helena Public Cemetery.

Mr. McCormick died yesterday in a Santa Rosa convalescent home where he was transferred from the St. Helena Sanitarium and Hospital after he suffered a stroke last August.

He was born on the 2,600 acre family ranch on Spring Mountain Road which had also been devoted to sheep raising under his father, the late Henry McCormick.

Mr. McCormick made his home on the ranch throughout his lifetime and his youngest daughter, Mrs. Edwin H. (Edna Mae) Learned and her family also live there. Another daughter, Mrs. William H. (Ina) Hart lives at Rockland, St. Helena.

He served on the board of supervisors from 1914 to 1922. During his term of office the highway between Vallejo and Calistoga was paved, and plans for Napa County's participation in construction of the Golden Gate Bridge was completed.

In addition to his two daughters, he is survived by two grandchildren, Sandra Diane and Gary Howard Learned; and two nephews, Hubert J. and Byron D. McCormick. He was the brother of the late Chalmers McCormick, Hugh McCormick, Mae McCormick Williams and Arlie McCormick Dondero.

He was a member of the St. Helena Presbyterian Church and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

On April 23 of 1956 and 1961, Mr. McCormick's 85th and 90th birthdays, his family hosted large gatherings of prominent members of pioneer families and civic officials who honored him for his community achievements.
