LEOMINSTER — Charlie C. Christacakos, 84 years old, of Leominster, died Wednesday, November 15, 2011 in HealthAlliance-Leominster Hospital after being stricken ill at home.
Charlie was born September 7, 1927 in Chicago, IL, son of Theodore and Marion (Pappas) Christacakos and had lived in Leominster since 1954. He retired from the United States Army in 1968, after serving his country for 24 years. Charlie then worked as a Lab Technician at the Digital Corp. in Maynard, before retiring in 1990. Charlie was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. "Charmin" or "Popouli" had a quick wit and always had words of wisdom. He was a ray of light that could instantly light up a room. He was always the life of the party, and enjoyed making everyone laugh. He enjoyed sitting in his favorite chair reading poems and sayings. He also had a strong love for dogs. He gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life. Charlie is loved and cherished very dearly. Charlie was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Leominster.
He is survived by his beloved family including his wife of 60 years Erna H. (Paegelow) Christacakos, two daughters, Marion Christacakos of Leominster and her boyfriend John Parslow of Cherry Valley, Carey Emby and her husband Larry of Leominster, two sisters, Frances Shereos, Pauline Mosterd and her husband Hank all of Chicago, IL, a sister-in-law Erika Halig and family of Maynard, three granddaughters, Kimberly Booth and her husband Shaun, Kristen Emby and Nina Emby all of Leominster. He also leaves his great-grandpups Buddy and Cooper. He was predeceased by his son Theodore Christacakos, sister Helen Christos, and brother Sam Christos.
Funeral services and burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster will be private. The Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster is assisting the family with arrangements.
