MRS. W. H. LAYMAN SUCCUMBS IN MD.

Former Rockingham Resident's Funeral Saturday, 2 p.m.

Mrs. Virginia A. Layman, 84, widow of William H. Layman and well known resident of McGaheysville, died Tuesday morning at 11:55 in Washington County Hospital, in Hagerstown, Md.

Mrs. Layman had been in failing health for several years, but her condition did not become serious until Saturday. She had been making her home with her daugher, Miss Hattie Layman, in Hagerstown, for the past four years.

She was born in McGaheysville, and was a member of the Mt. Zion United Brethren Church. A devoted mother and a woman of high Christian character, she was loved by all who knew her. Her husband preceded her in death 15 years ago.

Surviving are five children. Mrs. R. P. Looker, of Elkton; Mrs. Tom McDaniel, of McGaheysville; Mrs. Earl Stevens, of Frederick, Md.; Miss Hattie Layman, of Hagerstown, Md.; and Herbert Layman. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren.

One son, Kinsey Layman, preceded her in death six years ago.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, from the Mt. Zion United Brethren Church, with the Rev. F. L. Fulk conducting the service. Burial will be in the McGaheysville Cemetery.

The body will arrive in Elkton Thursday at 5 p.m. from Hagerstown, Md., and will remain in the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. P. Looker, until the hour of the funeral.
