Architect who designed many notable St. Louis buildings: The St. Louis Cathedral, Hotel Jefferson, The St. Louis Star building, Marquette Hotel, Hamilton Hotel, and many churches, hospitals and private residences. His firm also designed the Illinois Athletic Building and Southern Hotel in Chicago and other buildings in out-state Missouri.

He was born to Thomas Haynes and Ellen Farrell Haynes, both of whom were born in England. He was educated in the public schools of St. Louis. On 17 March 1894 he took Harriet L. Helery as his wife. The family home was at 4215 McPherson.

Mr. Haynes was a draftsman for Barnett & Taylor, 1880-1890; then partner with George D. Barnett. The firm became Haynes & Barnett which was one of the nine constituting the Commission of Architecture for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, known as the 1904 World's Fair.
