Doris L. Hower, 94, of Holton, formerly of Whiting, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the Holton Community Hospital.
She was born March 20, 1915 at Eltopia, Washington, the daughter of Fredrick and Lucy Barton Ruppenthal. She graduated from Lucas High School in 1932.
Doris was a homemaker and had worked for three years at the Slimaker Dress Factory in Holton.
She was a member of the Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton.
She married Milton Hower on May 13, 1932 at Lucas. He died August 10, 2008.
Doris was also preceded in death by a son, Wilfred Bruce Hower who died in infancy and a granddaughter, Janie Hulser.
Survivors include two sons, Kendal G. Hower, and wife, Mary, Dodge City, and Eldon D. "Bud" Hower and wife, Betty, Whiting; two daughters, Lurilla D. Mayfield, Everest, and Ruthetta M. Hulser, Holton; seven grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 19th, at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in the Holton Cemetery. Doris will lie in state at the funeral home where family and friends will meet from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Memorials are suggested to the Bethany Baptist Church, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 1034, Holton, 66436.
