Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Schemel was ordained in Louvain Belgium on June 29, 1894 and came to the Diocese of Buffalo to minister. He served Parishes in Boston, East Eden, Springville, Pendleton and North Java.
In 1908, Msgr. Schemel was named pastor of St. Joseph parish in North Buffalo where he was pastor until his death. He built the school, church and other parish facilities in his 36 years as pastor.
