Served in Co E 9th Indiana Infantry during the Civil War. Charles Darney Bieber was born at Allentown, Lehigh county Pennsylvania, December 2, 1839. Moved with his parents to Trumbull county, Ohio in 1841; learned the carpenter's trade; moved to Lake county, Indiana in 1856; was married to Eliza Falsom August 8, 1859. Volunteered in November 1861, in company E ninth Indiana Infantry, served three years and three months, was in battles of Green Brier, Fort Washington and Shiloh; was mustered out at Indianapolis. He came to Kansas in September 1871; settled first in Republic county but came to Norton county in 1872. They have three children; Charles Leonard was born July 4, 1860, and was married here April 11, 1886 to Ellen Hale; they have two children, Ray, his child, born January 6, 1887; Bessie born April 4, 1891, they reside on a farm in Grant township. Carrie was born December 27, 1864.
Thomas was born October 18, 1866; he married Effie Vanosdel February 23, 1891; they have one child, Ira, born October 6. 1892. Thomas lives on the home farm at Calvert with his parents. Taken from Lockard's History of Norton County
