FATAL ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING
SAMUEL BABBS THE VICTIM FROM A GUN IN THE HANDS OF HIS BROTHER
Wednesday evening about sundown, while out hunting near their homes in the vicinity of Fairmont, Samuel Babbs was fatally injured by the premature discharge of a gun in the hands of his brother, Herman, from which death resulted early Sunday morning.
The particulars are as follows:
The two brothers were watching for wild geese which were flying over them. Both had sat down about ten steps apart, facing each other. Herman raised the lock on one barrel of his gun and had his thumb on the other lock and was pulling it back when his hand slipped and caused the load to be exploded, ten 8 shot entering Samuel's right arm between the wrists and shoulder. Surgical aid was sent for, wounds examined and the victim thought to be doing well when blood poison set in. A message was started for a surgeon to come and perform an amputation but Mr.Babbs died before the answer arrived.
Deceased was a son of William Babbs, about 26 years of age and leaves a wife and one child. He was an excellent citizen and the community as well as the relatives feel deeply the tragic accident that caused his untimely death.
Funeral services by the M.P. minister and burial at the Newton cemetery, Monday.
