Milo H. Aakhus
1926 - 2009

Milo H. Aakhus, 82, North Branch, Minn., formerly of Effie, Minn., died June 13, 2009 in North Branch.

In 1926, Milo was born to Halvor and Olive Aakhus in Effie. He was a long time resident of Effie. He married Joanne Babcock raising five kids throughout the years. He entered the Navy at age 17 and served during World War II. After the war, he attended St. Olaf College. He owned Aakhus Skelly Station and had the Skelly Bulk in Effie until 1968. At that time he was appointed Postmaster in Effie until his retirement in 1990. Milo had many good retirement years. He was a member of the American Legion post in Effie and a lifetime member of VFW in Bigfork, Minn. He was also a member of the Effie Fredheim Lutheran Church. He did a lot of volunteer work for various organizations.

Milo is survived by his wife Joanne of 52 years; five children Elizabeth (Gary) Knott of Olathe, Kansas, Cindy (Kevin) Sanders of Duluth, Minn., Sharon (Richard) Lundberg of North Branch, Douglas (Dani) Aakhus of Post Falls, Idaho, and Jodie (Clark) Meyer of Golden Valley, Minn.; eight grandchildren Rachel, Laura, and Eric Knott, Anders and Ingrid Lundberg, Anna and Cara Meyer, and Natalie McGraw; and two brothers Bud (Mickey) Aakhus of Effie and Aldon Aakhus of Casper, Wyoming.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Visitation is Sunday June 28, 2009, 4 to 8 p.m. at Carroll Funeral Home, Bigfork. A memorial service will be Monday June 29, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Effie Lutheran Church in Effie.
