PHILLIPS, RUTH COLLINS, age 84, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away into glory after a brief illness on May 11, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Rev. A. C. (Pete) Phillips; her parents, Thomas Lee and Athena Ragsdale Collins. [Maternal grandparents were John Ragsdale and Loula Octavia Stephens.]

She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Howard College in 1940. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Birmingham, Lakeshore Drive. She was very dedicated and passionate about her family and church. She taught her beloved Lydia Sunday School Class for many years until her illness was discovered.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn P. O'Dell (Jerry); son, Paul A. (Suzanne) Phillips; three grandchildren, Andrew (Cindy) O'Dell and Lindsey O'Dell (Nick) Hill and Mattie Conn Phillips; two great grandchildren, Emily Linn O'Dell and Ally Alise O'Dell; brother, Thomas Lee (Peggy) Collins, Jr., Peggy C. (Dr. W. T.) Edwards and Annelle C. (Carl) Bishop; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 13, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Birmingham, Lakeshore Drive, with burial in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Pell City. Rev. Randy Overstreet and Dr. W. T. Edwards officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the church. Ridout's Southern Heritage directing.
