Bud continued the family farming operation until 1976, when he purchased an independent insurance and realty business in Kingman which became the Benson Agency. Bud excelled at community and business leadership activities during his career including President of the Kansas Land Institute and founding and charter board member of Wheatland Retirement Home, Cheney Golden Age Home, Belmont Co-operative Assn, and Eagle Township.
He was a member of the Kingman United Methodist Church, choir and held various leadership roles in the Church, Rotary Club International and the V.F.W.
On May 5, 1954, he married Betty I. Pate at Ft. Eustis, Va.; she survives. Other survivors include: sons David and wife Deb, Douglass and wife Andrea; daughter Darcelle Welker and husband Ryan; sister Mary Ann Brown; three grandchildren, Danielle Benson, Jessica Benson and Jocelyn Welker.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Belmont. Memorials may be made to the Wheatlands Healthcare Center or the Kingman United Methodist Church, both in care of the funeral home. (From Hutchnews)
