John Laudig, 79 years old, died st his home on South Independence street, about seven o'clock Monday morning, death ending an illness of almost two years. Heart trouble which had caused a poor circulation and affected his lower limbs for many months, caused his death. The body was taken to the Young mortuary to prepare it for burial, being returned to the home Monday evening to lie in state until the hour of the funeral. Services will be held at the Lutheran church in Tipton, Monday morning at 10:30 following a service at the home at 10. Rev. Theodore Schwan will officiate and burial will be in Fairview cemetery. John Laudig and his cheery personality will be missed sorely from this community. Even during the latter part of his illness he never ceased to meet his friends with a smile and a cheery greeting, never complaining, although he suffered constant pain in his limbs and walking became a painful task. During all his illness his faithful wife an companion for many years attended his every want. About 18 months ago Mr. Laudig suffered a severe attack of shingles and since that time has declined rapidly. John Laudig was born in Germantown, Penn., Oct. 11, 1854, his parents Jacob and Katherine Laudig coming to Indiana when he was a baby in arms. After a short residence in Fortville the family moved to what is still known to many as the Laudig homestead south of Tipton where the deceased resided after his marriage, until March 3, 1939 when they purchased property on South Independence street. Mr. Laudig was married 36 years ago to Ida (Bolton) Johnson, widow of Albert F. Johnson, but no children were born to the couple. A stepson met a tragic death several years ago, being burned to death. Mrs. Laudig is a daughter of Thomas Bolton, pioneer Tipton county resident who is deceased. Mrs. Laura Ludlow residing near Tipton and Miss Hattie Bolton of College Corner, Ohio are sisters.
Jacob Laudig was a pioneer furniture maker and he and his son, John, carried on that trade in connection with farming.
