Benjamin Franklin Dow was the son of Daniel and Mary (Chadbourne) Dow. His parents were married in Moultonborough 8/10/1810. His father Daniel, was twice married - second wife was Diana Kelley whom he married 11/5/1847. Benjamin's grandparents were Phineas and Tabitha (Page) Dow.

Benjamin F. Dow's wife was Mary Ann Dearborn (born in Stanstead, Que. 1/18/1828). She died 7/6/1900. Their children were: James Pierce Dow, born in Gilford (11/2/1856 - 1/6/1913); Rosa Jane, born in Pittsfield (7/14/1859 - 3/9/1917); Benjamin F., born in Moultonborough (1862-1883); and Gertrude May, born in Gilford (2/12/1873 - 4/26/1944)). Rosa Jane married Roland Augustus Avery and died in Moultonborough.

Benjamin owned a home along Paugus Bay in Lakeport, which was part of Gilford at the time. It was numbered 1238 Union Avenue and was the property currently occupied by the old Burger King building (formerly the Shore Diner). He was a farmer and owned another parcel of land located close to his homestead lot.
