In Company A. of the 26th Michigan, Sgt. Thomas M. Cobb of Dansville, Ingham County, was severely wounded in the neck during action near Petersburg on June 17. He had enlisted as Corporal on August 21, 1862, at the age of 36 and became 1st Sergeant on March 19, 1864. Unfortunately, just days before the final surrender of Lee's army, the 26th Michigan lost several veterans at Farmville on April 7th 1865. Among the wounded listed was Co. A. Sgt. Thomas M. Cobb. He was then about 39 years of age and was discharged for disability at Baltimore, Maryland on June 10, 1865, on account of wounds received in action at Farmville, Virginia on April 7, 1865. Cobb was listed at Grand Rapids in an 1883 reunion program for the 26th Michigan (perhaps living at the Veteran's Home) and died on September 1, 1886. He is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Michigan near Edwin Cobb (1826-1873) who served in the 6th Michigan Cavalry.

26th Michigan service included: Alexandria, Washington, Suffolk, the New York Draft Riots, Mine Run, Wilderness, Po River, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Totopotomoy, Cold Harbor, Petersburg including Deep Bottom, Ream's Station, Cedar Level Station, White Oak Swamp & Hatcher's Run, Fort Fisher, Sayler's Creek & Farmville, Appomattox and The Grand Review.
