From the May 6, 1916 Campbell County Record
SHERIDAN — Ernest Kendrick and Miss Iva Buchanan, both of Arvada, a little town east of Sheridan on the Burlington, eloped and were married in Hardin. Both are of age, hence there could be no legal objection to the marriage; yet the match was unpopular with the bride's family. The newlyweds returned to Arvada, arriving during the progress of a dance at which relatives of both were prominent. Their presence fanned the fires to feud into flame and a general melee ensued in which Frank Buchanan, brother of the bride, was shot in the left cheek by Tom Kendrick, brother of the bridegroom. Witnesses declare the Buchanans were the aggressors. The wounded man was brought to the hospital here and Kendrick arrested. His physician says Buchanan will recover. Both the Kendrick's involved are nephews of Gov. Kendrick of Wyoming and employed by him on his Powder River cattle ranch.
