Abner was the son of Lewis E. Sides (1867-1928) and Libbie BURKE (1865-1956). Abner had two brothers - Samuel (1892-1899) and James Edward (1899-1984). James was born on July 4, 1899 - just about one week after his parents lost both Samuel and Abner to diphtheria.
Abner died from diphtheria on June 27, 1899 at about 8:00pm. His brother, Samuel, had already died from diphtheria at about 5:00pm on June 24, 1899. Samuel was buried on June 25th - just one day after his death - and Abner buried on the same day of his death. Perhaps the children were buried so quickly because of the fear that the disease would be spread.
