Jasper Newton Edmonson died at his home Monday morning at 10:00 o'clock, and with his passing the Hobbs community loses one of its finest citizens. Mr. Edmonson's death following an illness covering a period of nearly two years with complications of gall duct and liver trouble and hardening of the arteries. While he had not been in good health during this time his condition did not become critical until about two weeks ago.
Funeral services will be held in the Methodist church at Hobbs Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. U.S. Hartley being in charge. Burial will be in the Arcadia cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from one-o'clock Wednesday until the hour of the funeral.
Mr. Edmonson is survived by his wife who has been his devoted and faithful companion for nearly a half century. He is also survived by three sisters: Mrs. Sarah Jane Wilburn, wife of J.M. Wilburn of Hobbs, Mrs. Florence Murray of Indianapolis and Mrs. Ella Rohrer of Sheridan. Two sisters were deceased in infancy.
Mr. Edmonson was born in Dallas Center, Iowa, June 18th, 1856 and was the only son of Elias and Elizabeth Edmonson. His parents moved to Indiana when he was about two years old and settled on a farm in Hamilton county near Aroma and he grew to manhood and received his education in that community. Mr. Edmonson was united in marriage to Miss Frances Justice of Hamilton county November 18th, 1883 and after their marriage they resided near Aroma for three years. Forty-one years ago they bought a farm north of Hobbs and moved there.
For a short time Mr. Edmonson was engaged in the general merchandising business at Aroma, following his retirement from active life. Later, he was also engaged in the same business in Hobbs having charge of the general store at that place. Since selling the store he lived a quiet retired life.
Mr. Edmonson was an active member of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Hobbs and of the K. of P. lodge at Frankton. While not a member of any church, he was a man of true Christian character and was a liberal supporter of the Methodist church of Hobbs of which his wife was a member and he was active and could be depended upon in any of the church activities. He was a good and friend and he will be mourned by the entire community.
