C. S. Company C, 16th Arkansas Infantry Regiment Pvt/Pvt. Enlisted 7 Oct 1861 at Clarksville, Johnson, Arkansas. Age at enlistment: 15. Mustered into service 29 Oct 1861 at Fayetteville. Discharged from Port Hudson, Louisiana 19 Feb 1863 due to minor age (17).
Company L, 7th Arkansas Cavalry Regiment Pvt/Pvt. Enlisted 13 Sep 1863 at Clarksville, Johnson, Arkansas. Captured 5 Nov 1864 at Clarksville and exchanged for Thomas Hazelman, Pvt, Company E, 2nd Kansas Cavalry Regiment.


Son of Melvin Coffee and Jane Laster, married 1843 in Johnson Co., Arkansas.
