Willis Roscoe Adams, of Columbia, SC and Rocky Mount, NC, died peacefully after a brief illness February 19, 2010.

He was born January 3, 1916 in San Diego, CA to Byers and Katherine Adams, the eldest of four.

The family moved to Virginia, where they lived on an island in the Dan River and dairy farmed. Mr. Adams attended Duke University (driving milk to market and selling ice cream on the side).

After service in WWII, he went into sales, where his innate determination and his enjoyment of people found natural expression.

Mr. Adams started Wilmington Hospital Supply Company in Columbia, SC in 1963 as a "mom and pop" shop, growing it to employ many dozens before selling it in 1979. The friendships he forged there lasted his lifetime.

He loved time on the golf course - all 19 holes - enjoyed the beach and travel. He was a member of St. Michael and All Angels' Episcopal Church and then of First Presbyterian Church of Columbia, maintaining ties after he went to live in Rocky Mount. His faith was deep and sustaining. Unfailingly kind, he was in all circumstances a gentleman. His quiet generosity touched many lives.

Mr. Adams was blessed to have had three successful marriages, and cherished his family. He was married to Carolyn "Boots" Clarke Adams until her death. Their daughter Lucinda, her husband Nathan Olasov and their son Belvin Willis Adams Olasov survive him. He was married to Mary Corbett Phelan Adams until her death; her daughters Joy and Mary and their children survive him. He was married to Margaret "Peggy" Parsley Moore; her son Bill, and his son Gus survive him. He was very close to his late brothers, to his sisters-in-law, and to his nieces and nephews.

Interment was in Lawtonville Cemetery, Estill,
