DON E. BAILEY

Mr. Don E. Bailey, 76, of Lakeland, Florida, died, February 13, 2010, at home of cancer surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born March 18, 1933, in Decatur County, Indiana, to Lloyd and Frances (Varble) Bailey and then moved to Vero Beach with his parents in the 1940's and graduated from Vero Beach High School.

Mr. Bailey attended The University of Florida, served in the US Army, (was stationed in Hawaii, during the Korean War, was honorably discharged), and received his BS degree from Florida Southern College.
Married his High School Sweet Heart Hope Witt in 1958, in Vero Beach, at the United Methodist Church.

Don and Hope moved to Lake Wales when Don began his career with Sears, which moved them back to Lakeland where he retired 33 years later.

He also had his Real Estate License and dabbled with business partners and friends on properties through Tom Scharar at Gator Realty.

He was a member of the Fist United Methodist Church of Lakeland, and served his community on boards at the Methodist Church, the Lakeland Regional Medical Center, The City of Lakeland Coleman-Bush Board, original member of the Sister Cities of Lakeland, and was an Elk.

Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife of 52 years, their children, and their grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Varble Bailey of Greensburg, IN, brother Lyle B. Bailey of Kendallville, IN, and survived by his sister Pauline (Pat) Steen of Greenwood, IN, brother Ivan L. Bailey and wife Jessie of Greensburg, IN, brother Rodrick L. Bailey and wife Mary of St. Paul, IN, sister-in-law Mildred Bailey of Kendallville, IN, cousin Nick Bailey and wife Kay of Batesville, IN, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Don's life will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, 6:30pm, at the First United Methodist Church 72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, and interment immediately following at the Columbarium on Lake Morton at the church.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to First United Methodist Church, 72 Lake Morton Dr. Lakeland, Florida 33801, in memory of Don Bailey.
