The Rev. Julian Oscar Carpenter, 60, of Bergton, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at
his home.

Rev. Carpenter was born July 28, 1941, in Woodstock, and was a son of the late
Oscar and Fleta Payne Carpenter.

He served as minister at Damascus Church of the Brethren in Criders and Crab Run
Church of the Brethren in Mathias, W.Va. for 14 years. He was a veteran of the
Vietnam War and served in the U.S. Army for 20 years.

On Nov. 30, 1984, he married the former Emma Forehand, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Julian Lee Carpenter, Spring Valley, Calif., and
Timothy Darren Carpenter of Stark, Fla.; a daughter, Jeanna Marie Ware, Mount
Sidney; a stepson, Hugh Forehand, New Market; a stepdaughter, Lynn Halsey,
Chesapeake; two sisters, Norma Sites, Harrisonburg, and Carolyn Ware, Dayton; a
brother, Randy Carpenter, Dayton; seven grandchildren; and six
step-grandchildren.

Pastor Franklin Tusing will conduct a graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday at
the Mount Clinton Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday
at the Bergton Recreational Center.
