John met his future wife Carrie Josie Weaver when he was renting a room at her house. At the time he was teaching Latin at Finley College.

He married Carrie on July 18th, 1894 and they had 2 boys and 3 girls. Their names in the order of their birth are: Raymond Weaver, Norman Emerson, Mabel, Marie and Elizabeth.

Most of John's career was spent as the Superintendent of the Toledo Water Company in Toledo Ohio. His hobbies included playing Opera music on his windup victrola and telling stories to his grandchildren about the history of England. He had a wonderful library in his home in North Baltimore, Ohio that he filled with books that was used frequently by the family.

He passed away in 1942 from Stomach cancer.
