Elizabeth Rose Farrar

Elizabeth R. Farrar, beloved mother, sister and grandmother, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010 in her home. She was 85.
Elizabeth lived in Springfield for the past 48 years. She was born in Johnston City, Ill. in 1924, the daughter of Leo E. and Glenna Z. Jones. A graduate of Johnston City High School, she moved to Evansville, Ind. where she met and married the love of her life, Hallet R. Farrar, in 1954. Together they raised five children, imparting to them the joy of family, the love of God and the importance of always treating others with kindness and compassion. She was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church.
Although she considered her most important role to be that of homemaker, she also served on the administrative staff of the Bursar's Office at Missouri State University for over 15 years. She retired in 1990, receiving Emeritus status. She treasured time with her family, and especially enjoyed time spent with her seven grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1998 by her husband Hallet, who was a veteran of World War II; and two sisters, Geneva Davis and Mary Evelyn Jones.
Elizabeth is survived by two sons and their wives, Kent and Babette Farrar, Jim and Elaine Farrar; three daughters and their husbands, Beverly and Brent Jackson; Debbie and Jeff Berger; and Terri and William McNeill, all of Springfield; a brother and his wife, Leo and Marsha Jones, Johnston City, Ill.; and grandchildren, David Roberts, Charlottesville, Va; Sarah Berger, Shannon and Matthew McNeill, Halle Farrar, and Thomas and Ethan Farrar, all of Springfield.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25 at Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, 1497 E. Seminole, followed by a prayer service. Funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26 at St. Agnes Cathedral, with Father Michael V. McDevitt, celebrant. Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
