William George Pretzer, age 81 of Lindenwood passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Provena Cor Mariae Center in Rockford with his family by his side.
He was born on October 18, 1928 in Chicago, IL, the son of William Jacob and Hazel Adams Pretzer. Bill married Jeannine Kathryn Engelhardt on August 4, 1952, she preceded him in death on April 15, 1985. He then married Carol Ann Dalenberg on January 25, 1987 in Las Vegas, NV.
Bill served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. He was a fireman in Chicago for 31 years as an Engineer.
Preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Denise Disterheft, and a grandson: William E. Pretzer. Bill was a life long learner, he nurtured a family of firefighters, was a multiple medal winner in the Senior Olympics and a long time avid Bear and Cub Fan.
Survivors include his wife Carol Pretzer of Lindenwood, 2 sons: William Jr. (Darlene) Pretzer of Park Ridge, IL, Paul (Carrie) Pretzer of Rockford, IL, daughter: Kimberly (Larry) Parks of Valparaiso, IN, son-in-law: Gary (Deb) Disterheft of Glendale Heights, IL, 3 step children: William (Bernadette) Dalenberg of Elk Grove Village, IL, James Dalenberg of Elk Grove Village, IL, Laura Aiardo of Hanover Park, sister: Muriel Lieb of Sandusky, OH, 6 grandchildren: Kyle, Mike, Brent, Gunnar, Gillian and William. 5 step grandchildren: Jonathan, Ashley, Nicole, Danny, and Mary
A visitation will be held from 4 - 8 PM on Wednesday, February, 24, 2010 at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th ST., Rochelle. A memorial service will be held at a later date with burial of his cremated remains at the Irving Park Cemetery.
