W.D. Bolding, 95, came to Texas in 1887 at the age of 15. He lived at Dawson, Texas for three years and moved to Bellevue where he lived for six years. While at Bellevue, he attended the teacher's college at Denton for portions of two years, receiving a certificate and teaching school at Bellevue in 1891 at the age of 19 years.

W.D. Bolding married Miss Nettie Harvey in Hood County, Texas in 1896 and moved to Archer City where he taught from 1896-1898.

The couple came to Olney, Young County, Texas in 1898 when the town was a small trading center for cattlemen. Bolding worked first as a school teacher/principal of the Olney school, which was housed in a two-story frame building on West Spring Creek Street. Bolding decided to abandon his school teaching career, he entered the mercantile business in partnership with W.H. Keen and S.B. Street. He sold out his partnership for three years and bought out the local telephone system for $350 and became the first operator in Olney. In 1912, he became a partner with W.N. Lunn in Lunn Funeral Company and Lunn Funeral Home. He was a merchant in Olney for many years until 1919 when they moved to Wichita Falls, Texas to open an additional store. He sold his interest in the funeral home and purchased a grocery store in Wichita Falls which he operated from 1919-1954. Bolding retired at the age of 75, six months later in July 1946, the couple returned to Olney with a son, Harvey Bolding purchased and became operators of the White Auto Store. In 1948, Perkins-Timberlake purchased his stock and he moved to Conroe and bought the White Auto Store there. After the death of his wife, he brought his son into the business.

Bolding moved to Oklahoma in 1951 from Conroe after selling his business.

Bolding came back to Olney in 1952, worked for seven years as a practical nurse and worked part-time as a door-to-door salesman for Rawleigh's Products.

He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 76 years, serving as an elder at the time of his death.

Survived by one son - Harvey Bolding of Wichita, Kansas; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Services were held in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. A.G. Matlock, pastor, officiating.
