MRS.DORCAS MEFFORD--Dorcas Sophia Downs Mefford was born in Ohio in 1840, and died in Abilene Feb. 29, 1924 at the age of 83 years, 1 month and 22 days. When she was a young woman she moved with her parents to Iowa [note: actually her mother was already dead when the family moved to Iowa] where she was married to A. W. Mefford, July 11, 1859. To this union ten children were born, six of them dying in infancy. In 1872 they moved to Nebraska, where they lived until 1894 when they came to Abilene where they spent the remainder of their lives. Mr. Mefford died on May 13, 1907 at the age of 77 years. In her young womanhood Mrs. Mefford became a Christian and has for many years been a member of the Church of Christ in Abilene. She leaves to miss her: two sons, Will Mefford of Portland, Oregon, and George Mefford of Greeley, Colorado; two daughters, Mrs. Mattie Vinson of Abilene and Mrs. Emma Rush of Greeley, Colorado; also one brother of Iowa and a number of grandchildren. She died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Frank Trickle of Abilene, where the funeral service was conducted by Rev. Troy Beis, March 2. Burial was made in the Greenridge Cemetery.
