Avis Eslie Johnson, 91, of Kinta, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, in Wilburton. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. today at the Oak Leaf Room with the Rev. John Parish officiating. Burial will be at Quinton Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hunn & Black Funeral Home of Quinton. Born Nov. 23, 1918, in Ralston, she was the daughter of Alex Edward and Rose BeHethline Cheatham Cannon. She was reared at Ralston and Burbank graduating in 1936. She then attended Oklahoma State University and Southwestern State at Weatherford receiving her bachelor's degree in education. She married Russell H. Johnson on August 14, 1938, in Pawnee, and he preceded her in death in November 1987. She taught school at Burland, Bridgeport, Cordell, Dalhart, Texas, Texline, Texas, Sedan, N.M., Clayton, N.M., Canute and Kinta, retiring in 1968. She was a member of the Quinton First Baptist Church and the Kapa Kapa Iota Sorority. Survivors include her sons, S.L. Johnson and wife, Carol, of Kinta, and Alex Johnson and wife, Sandy, also of Kinta; her daughters, Sharon Jackson and husband, Leland, of Canute, and Audrine Randolph, of McAlester; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Floris Brandenburg and Evaline Ebert; two brothers, Bud and Gurney Cannon, and a son-in-law, Richard Randolph. Pallbearers will be Jack Jackson, Leland T.J. Jackson, Russell Jackson, Logan Johnson, Kelly Byrum, Luke Johnson, Nathan Johnson and Justin Byrum.
