"Loving Husband & Companion"

My loving husband and companion, William Thomas Stewart, passed away on April 23, 2003 after a lingering illness.

Bill was born on July 4, 1925, at Driggs, Idaho, the only son of William Thomas and Irma Wilson Stewart. He was the baby brother of three loving sisters,

Lucille, Claire and Jean.

His early years were spent at Alta, Wyoming, on the west slopes of the Teton Mountains and Warren, Utah, west of Ogden, Utah. He attended Granite High School, graduating in 1943, and entered the Army Air Corps in October 1943. After attending several training schools, he sailed to Naples, Italy, in October 1944, where he was stationed.

He flew several bombing missions over Germany and Poland until his plane was shot down on March 15, 1945. After being rescued by the Russian Army, he was given a long circular trip home through Iran, Egypt, French Morocco, French West Africa, Brazil, British Guiana, Puerto Rico, and finally Savannah, Georgia.

He attended the University of Utah and then was employed by the Bureau of Reclamation where he moved to Manila, Utah to begin working as a surveyor on the Flaming Gorge Dam. There he met his wife, Duella, who was the secretary to the Project Manager. They were married on September 4, 1959, and lived in Dutch John, Utah. After the completion of the Flaming Gorge Dam, they moved to Morgan, Utah, and worked on the East Canyon Dam. In 1965 they moved to Mountain View, Wyoming, where he helped on two earth-filled dams, Meeks Cabin Dam and Stateline Dam. He retired from the BOR in 1988 and then was employed by the Bridger Valley Water Conservancy District until 1995. In December of 1995 they moved to the Salt Lake Valley and resided in Murray and West Jordan.

He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many positions and was a high priest. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on September 5, 1972.

He is survived by his wife, Duella; his sisters, Lucille Nesbitt and Claire Shuholm; nephew, Craig Shuholm, of St. George, Utah; niece, Julie Jorgensen (Tom) Larson, California; as well as many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jean, and brothers-in-law, Charles Nesbitt and Leonard Jorgensen.

Funeral services will be held at the River 5th Ward, 1380 West 6785 South, West Jordan, Utah, Monday, April 28, at 11 a.m. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Sunday 6-8 p.m., and at the ward Monday one hour prior to services.
