CHESTER E. LANDI

Chester E. Landi, 91, of Buena passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at Jefferson Hospital in Pennsylvania, with his loving family by his side.

Born in New York City, he was a lifelong area resident. He owned and operated Chester's Barber Shop on Chestnut Avenue for many years, retiring in 1982. In his early years, he worked with his father, James, and brother, Al, at the family's barbershop that was established in 1938 on Sixth Street in Vineland. Chester was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Barber's Association. Chester enjoyed pinochle, and most of all, being with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his parents, James and Mary (Mazzotti) Landi; three brothers, Al, Frank and Hector Landi; and one sister, Helen Puccio.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary (Serra) Landi of Buena; four sons, Richard Landi and wife Elaine of Vineland, James Landi and wife Dale of Pittsgrove, Joseph Landi and wife Denise of Vineland, and Thomas Landi and wife Jennifer of Vineland; 12 grandchildren, Richard Landi and wife Jill, Keith Landi and wife Alissa, Adam and Matthew Landi, James Landi Jr and wife Megan, Jessica Suppa and husband Matthew, Dana Davis and husband Bryan, Joseph Jr. and Melissa Landi, and Ashley, Joshua and Allison Landi; and five great-grandchildren, Hayden and Owen Landi, Mackenzie Davis, and Tyler and Payton Suppa.

A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Church in Vineland.

Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.
