AZTEC, N.M. -- Gordon L. Belcher, 89, of Aztec, formerly of Greeneville, Tenn., died Monday at Four Corners Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Aztec.

He was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Madisonville, Tenn., and was a son of the late Auther T. and Virginia Isbill Belcher.

Mr. Belcher attended Alcoa High School in Tennessee.

He served in the U.S. Army four years and three months. He was stationed in Europe during World War II.

In 1947, Mr. Belcher married Nancy Lewallen in Chatsworth, Ga. They were married for 62 years.

He worked for Ormet Corp. for 27 years.

Mr. Belcher had lived at the Signature HealthCare of Greeneville for 17 years. He was an active resident there, participating in a number of the activities both on and off the campus.

In July of this year, he and his wife moved to Aztec to be closer to their son and daughter-in-law, Stephen S. and Kathy J. Belcher.

Mr. Belcher was a member of First Baptist Church in Greeneville, and the Greene County Beagle Club. He was a member of MidIsland.

"He loved to golf, hunt, and raise champion beagles," his family stated.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, and his son and daughter-in-law in New Mexico, include a son: Micheal G. Belcher; his grandchildren: January Nuanez, Tiffany Ferguson, Christopher Padgett, Geoffrey Thompson, Daisha Vaughn, Cherrish Skeen, Jessica Belcher, and Kayla Belcher; five great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law: Gerald "Ben" and Diane Belcher of Greeneville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
