FORMER WOODBURN CITIZEN PASSES; FUNERAL SATURDAY
John W. Crist died Thursday at the home of his brother, George W. Crist in Woodburn. Deceased, had he lived would have been 72 years old next March. Funeral services were held from the Woodburn M. E. church Saturday morning conducted by Rev. Forest Richeson of the Christian church. Interment was made in the Last Chance cemetery, just across the line in Lucas county.
The deceased came with his parents to Iowa in an early day and lived in Jackson county. He left a half century or more ago but maintained contact with early acquaintances in Clarke county by occasional visits.
At one time he was connected as an employer with the Sells Brothers circus and traveled all over the United States. He accompanied the show to foreign lands.
Later he became associated with the Sulllivan Machine company of Chicago, a contracting firm, and operated drills for the company for several years.
He located later on a farm in the northern part of Indiana near Newland, where he lived when he suffered a stroke a few months ago. His condition did not improve and he was brought to Woodburn in an ambulance, arriving there the day before his demise. The trip appeared to be of benefit but his failing strength presaged the end.
He is survived by the wife and one daughter, aged 13, two brothers, George and Charles Crist of Woodburn and one sister, Frances Crist of Derby, a host of friends and relatives.
Wife of Mary Gorski. Son of Daniel Crist and Dorotha Sanders.
