FORD, Alfred L., 80 yrs. 4 months , of Wesley Chapel, passed away Saturday morning, November 8, 2008 in his home, under care of Gulfside Hospice and in the arms of his loving wife Joyce. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Joyce Ann Hopkins Ford; daughters, Carolyn, Kimberly, and Melissa; sons, David & Al. Grandchildren, Shawna, Aaron, Samantha, Stephen, Scott, Brooke, Spencer, Sean, Russell, Dave, Heather, Wesley, Alan and Garrett; and five great-grand-children. Temporary interment was at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Permanet interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Trinity, FL.

The son of Reverend Alfred Lorenzo Ford and Julia Anna Arbaugh Ford of Richmond, Virginia. The brother of Naomi Ruth Ford. The grandson of Alfred Lorenzo Ford and Lillian Bell Angle of Richmond, Virginia. His father was a preacher and mother the organist, and both Alfred and his sister Ruth sang in the choirs. According to the 1940 census, his father owned a gas station and his mother owned and ran a borading house in the Tampa Area. When the family initially moved to Tampa, they lived at 114 Allison Court.

He was the husband of Joyce Ann Hopkins. The father of Carolyn Kinslow(deceased); Kimberly Ballish; Melissa Ballmann; David and Al Ford. Grandfather of Shawna; Aaron; Samantha; Stephen; Scott; Brooke; Spencer; Sean; Russell; Dave; Heather; Wesley; Alan and Garrett and five great grandchildren.

Al served in the Merchant Marines, and US Marine Corps. serving at the end of WWII and in Korea. He was with the Tampa Police Department for 25 years. He was instrumental in helping to develop the Tampa Police Air Service. During that time Lt. Ford organized and directed the Tampa Police Dance Band. They produced three albums. The proceeds from all dances and albums went to survivors of fellow fallen officers. After retirement from the Tampa Police Department; and with his great personality and charm, he landed a job with radio station WDAE and later with WSUN. He broadcasted and piloted from his plane called "Tillie The Toiler". That plane can now be seen hanging from the ceiling of the Tampa Police Station, downtown Tampa. His call letters were AL-One with Tampa International. He was quite well known as "Al SKY Patrol Ford". He made numerous personal appearances and volenteered with the Special Olympics during his lifetime. He was a member of the "2 Gallon Blood Club" and broadcasted until 1991 with the radio stations. After retirement from the radio station, he was with the Hillsbourogh Sheriffs Department for twelve years.

He passed of natural causes. A Mass of Christian Burial for close family and friends was held at Trinity Memorial Gardens Chapel, Trinity, FL.
