Funeral services were held Saturday, July 17 at First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton.
Interment was in Hillside Cemetery, Edgerton.
Dorothy (Kooiman) VanDam was born on Jan. 15, 1907 to Andries and Aaltje (Wittveen) Kooiman in Kampen, Netherlands. She attended school there until she was 13 years of age when she immigrated to America with her parents and six brothers in 1920. The family first worked and lived on a farm near Leota.
On Sept. 12, 1928 she married Gerrit VanDam. As a family they first farmed near Lake Wilson and in 1932 they moved to Chandler. In 1939, they moved to a farm near Woodstock where they remained until they moved to Edgerton in 1984. They lived there until such time as both required nursing care nearly five years ago. They were together at Edgebrook nearly two years when Gerrit, her husband, passed away.
She attended the Christian Reformed Church in Chandler for over 60 years.
She is survived by her children, Wilma Grootwassink, Alice (Harold) VanEssen, Rev. Harry VanDam, Dorothy (John) VanEssen, Gert (Harold) Jasper, all of Edgerton and Carol (Marvin) Struiksma, Artesia, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer Kooiman; and four sisters-in-law, Cora Bothof, Milly Kooiman, Minnie VerHoek and Henrietta VandenEykel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerrit; six brothers; two grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, and one son-in-law.
