David Gates Rites Are Held at Trenton

The funeral service for David Gates were held at the M.E> church Friday afternoon at two o'clock after a short service at the home, a prayer and a song "Asleep in Jesus". The service was in charge of Rev. J.K. Meyers, Mrs, Homer Scarff, Herman and Joni Egli sang, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus", "The Pearly White City". The pall bearers were: Frank Crowl, Jim Wilson, Harry Wilson, Glenn Payne, Dell Roberts and Fred Roberts. Interment was made at the Green Mound cemetery.

David Samuel Gates, son of Kye and Sarah Piper Gates was born May 1, 1862 and departed this life November 1933 at the age of 72 years and six months. He was married to Ammaretta Caroline Eshelman, March 29, 1986. To this union were born five children, three sons and two daughters of whom one son Alfred Raymond and one daughter Della Mae Sammons both of Trenton survive, with his beloved wife and eight grandchildren: Harold, Merlyn and Leo Sammons, Hazel, Ruth, Dorthy, Raymond and Ralph Gates; one sister Mrs Jennie Wilson of Ottumwa. He was converted when a young man and joined the Mennonite Brethern in Chrish church and died in this faith.
