Mary and Samuel had three children: Jo Eunice Stowe, William LeRoy Stowe, and Lilburn Stowe. Samuel died at White Bead, Indian Territory (about 14 miles from Pauls Valley). He was buried there and then subsequently moved to the West Hill Cemetery, in Sherman, Texas, beside some of his children from his previous marriage.
In about 1895, Mary married William Robert Moody who was born September 1849 in Missouri. The 1900 Federal Census for Township 8, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory shows William Moody, age 50, born September 1849, in Missouri. His wife, Mary J., age 46, was born April 1854, in Arkansas. The census showed that William and Mary had been married for five years. Living with them were William's four sons by a former marriage: Alexander, age 19; Henry, age 17; George, age 11; and Lee, age 8; all born in Arkansas. Also living with them was Mary J.'s son, William L. Stowe, age 15, born November 1884, in Indian Territory. Mary's daughter, Jo Eunice Stowe, and her husband, Joseph Ben Hedgecock, were living next door, and Mary's other son, Lilburn, age 17, born October 1882, was living next door with Jo Eunice and her husband.
William died sometime before 1910. The 1910 Federal Census for Municipal, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows Mary J. Moody, a widowed farmer, age 55, born in Arkansas. Living with her was her son, Robert Lilburn Stowe, a farm laborer, age 25, born in Oklahoma.
Three months after this census was taken, Mary died on August 24, 1910 in Allison, Oklahoma (Bryan County) and was buried in the Garden of Memory Cemetery in Colbert, Oklahoma (Bryan County). Sometime after her death, her son, Lilburn, moved to Arizona and became a cowboy working on a ranch. As far as known, he never married but remained single.Copyright © 2010 Nancy Ladd.
