DANIEL TAYLOR DEAN
...Daniel Taylor Dean was born January 14, 1846 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jessie Snell in this city on October 9, 1928, having attained the age of eighty-two years, eight months and twenty-six days.
...He was married July 31, 1870 to Martha Ellen Maggard. She passed away February 25, 1922.
...He leaves to mourn their loss three sons, Will H. of Moberly, Missouri, Earl of Garden City, Kansas and Ed of Stotts City, Missouri; four daughters, Mrs. Bessie Snell of La Plata where he has made his home since about the middle of August this year, Mrs. Annie Swan of Garden City, Kansas, Mrs. Mattie Rogers of Novelty, Missouri and Mrs. Rosa Blodgett of Range, Oklahoma. Two daughters preceded him in death. In addition to the previous mentioned, there are twenty-six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, a brother, Will Dean of Laharpe, Kansas and a sister, Mrs. Rodie Seabold of Elk City, Kansas.
...He enlisted as a soldier in the Civil War while residing in Illinois and was honorably discharged.
..He has not been actively engaged the past six years on account of his failing health and has made his home with his children.
...He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Sue City, Missouri in the year 1885 and lived a consistant Christain life till his death.
...Only a very few days before his death he requested that his daughter sing for him. He joined her in the entire song seemingly knowing that the end was drawing near.
...Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church, La Plata, Missouri, Thursday afternoon by the pastor, R.R. Watts assisted by Mr. John Imrie singing evangelist with his wife accompanist. Interment was in the La Plata cemetery.
