Evelyn Louise Wootton Harris, age 80, a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 26, 2010, at Alta Vista Regional Hospital.

She was born Oct. 9, 1929, in Las Vegas to John Peter Wootton and Elizabeth Fuss.

Evelyn graduated from Immaculate Conception School where she was a cheerleader and played basketball.

Evelyn married Joseph Harris on June 13, 1949, and made their life together at their family ranch until his passing in 2008. She was an avid reader, loved poetry, gardening, sewing and knew so much about the history of Las Vegas and Mora. She loved keeping in touch with family and friends through letter writing. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, PTA, women's bowling league, NM Cowbelles and IC Catholic Daughters. She gave generously to many charities.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Wootton, her eight siblings: Margaret Archuleta (Fidel), John Wootton, Robert Wootton, Pauline Chandler (Clarence), William Wootton (Stella), Loraine Niehans (Fred), Richens Wootton, and Joseph Wootton.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her surviving family.

She is survived by her daughters: Elizabeth Gomez (Edward) of El Paso, Texas; Gina Harris of Fruita, Colo.; and Lori Bovia (Don) of Las Vegas; her grandchildren: Lacy Houdek (Jeffery) of Las Vegas; Joseph Carruth of Fruita, Colo.; Patrick Gomez of Fort Collins, Colo.; Wayne Carruth (Amy) of Fruita, Colo.; Jeremy Carruth (Jenna) of Grand Junction, Colo.; Dillette Bovia of Las Vegas; and Donald Bovia of Española, N.M.; her great-grandchildren: Katherine Houdek and Connor Houdek of Las Vegas; Trystan Carruth of Fruita, Colo.; and Johnathan Silva of Las Vegas; she is also survived by sisters-in-law: Evelyn, Glenda, and Eileen Wootton, all of Farmington, N.M.; and numerous: nieces and nephews.

Rosary devotional services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Church and funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Harris Family Cemetery at the Joe Harris Ranch with the following serving as casket bearers: Patrick Gomez, Wayne Carruth, Jeremy Carruth, Donald Bovia, Jim Chandler and Jeffery Houdek. Serving as Honorary Bearers are Jaedon and Trystan Carruth, Mackenzie and Connor Houdek and Jonathan Silva.

Public Visitation will be at the Rogers Chapel from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday , when family and friends may call.
