Lola Beatrice Burgess, 100 years old, died peacefully at Austin's Park Bend Health Care Center on February 25, 2010. Born in Austin on April 6, 1909, she is preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents, Marie and Daniel Adamson; her sisters, Amelia Shank, Lillian Jones, and Virginia Lacouture; her brothers, Roland, George, T.D., and James; her niece-in-law, Pam Lacouture; and her dear friends in Las Vegas, NV, Irma Brinks and Joe Lopez. She is survived by her sister, Emma Bull; her sisters-in-law, Lavoyce Adamson and Donnie Wood and three generations of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
She had a deep love for God and her family. She dressed beautifully every day, got her hair and nails done every week, loved to win at 42 and bingo, and to gobble up Chili's baby back ribs and Luby's cornbread dressing and sweet potatoes. She was a faithful letter writer who could have won any "sweetest smile contest". Her sister, Virginia, always said, "You know your Aunt Lola will probably outlive all of us!" She very nearly did.
Her burial service takes place Saturday, February 27, 2010, 11:30 am, at Assumption Cemetery in Austin. An outing for baby back ribs will follow.
