CHARLES I. FURR was born to the late Mary Hamilton-Furr and Charles Furr on March 3, 1941 and departed this life on Sunday, December 27, 2009.

In 1975 he began practicing the Muslim faith. In 1979 he legally changed his name to Seifud-Din Abdur-Ra'oof as he is known today. Ra'oof was also affectionately known as Charlie, Billy and the many other nicknames he acquired through the years.

Ra'oof received his education in the Prince George's County Public School System and graduated from Fairmount Heights Senior High School in 1961. Ra'oof loved Fairmount Heights Class of 1961 and remained actively involved with Class Reunion activities. He also served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964.

Ra'oof was employed at Westinghouse and the United States Navel Academy. After receiving his Master Plumbing License in the late 1970s, he became self-employed.

As we all know, some of his favorite pastimes were watching the History Channel, The Animal Planet, and listening to All types of music. We can't forget about his LOVE for Dancing. He also enjoyed arts and crafts. Being an active member of the Baltimore Metro Chapter of the 9th and 10th Horse Cavalry of The Buffalo Soldiers was also one of his pastimes. In his early years he was very actively involved in the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Panther Party.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Dianne Simmons-Ra'oof; sister, Elaine Brown; brother, Melvin Contee (Lorriane); two loving sons, Azizuddin Abdur-Ra'oof and Hakim Carter; loving daughter, Fatimah Colbert (Marvin); two granddaughters, two grandsons, and a host of other relatives and friends.
