Gladys (Lucille) Freeman Sanders, 83, of Crossville, died July 17 at Cumberland Medical Center. Mrs. Sanders was born April 2, 1908, in Tallapoosa, Ga., the daughter of James C. Edwards, Sr., and Bera Bell Goree Edwards. She was the last survivor of nine children of this union. She was an active member of Homesteads Baptist Church, serving as president of her Sunday School class for several years. She was past secretary of the Senior Citizens Center. Her church and her friends were very special to her. She was married to John Jay Freeman for 51 years. After his death in 1978, she married Herbert Sanders in 1982. Mr. Sanders died the following year. Graveside services and burial were held July 19 at Green Acres Memory Gardens. The Rev. Dr. Dan D. Haskins, Jr., officiated. Special music, "Abide with Me," was sung by Deloy Brown. Pallbearers were Glenn Blaylock, Benton Bilbrey, Bruce Howard, Pete Stubbs, Joe Reynolds and Todd Roberts. She leaves a daughter, Hellon Freeman Potts, of Crossville; son-in-law, Thomas Edward Potts of Crossville, and a granddaughter, Debra Jean Potts of Crossville. A memorial fund has been created in memory of Gladys Lucille Freeman Sanders at Homesteads Baptist Church. Bilbrey Funeral Home was in charge.
