Lester R Ball, 74, 20685 Alliance-Sebring Road, died Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at R. H. D. Memorial Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, of a sudden illness.

Born March 18, 1918 in Alliance, he was the son of the late Ernest and Ruth (Tombaugh) Ball. According to the 1920 census Ruth was a widow and she and her two children Mabell and Lester were living with her parents William and Addie Tombaugh.

Lester was a graduate of Alliance High School and attended Alliance Business College and was a Navy WW II veteran.

He was a retired time study engineer for Morgan Engineering Co. in Alliance and a member of the Sebring Presbyterian Church where he was a past treasurer and was active in the Sessions and Mission of the church. He was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteers Association (RSVP), and was a long-time trustee of Quaker Hill Cemetery Association.

Survivors include his wife Veral (Sanor); two daughters, Mrs. Jeffrey Elaine Clayton of Alliance; and Beth Ball of Newark; one son, Richard L. Ball of Cleveland and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death in 1971 by his first wife, Kathryn (Krahling), and by his second wife, Amy Virginia (Cattell Winn), who died in 1983. (Lester and Virginia were married Sept 15, 1973 in Mahoning County, Ohio.)

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Sebring Presbyterian Church with Rev. William Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.

Visitations will be anytime after 2 p.m. Sunday with formal calling hours from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home in Sebring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of the church.
