Jo Eunice married Kenneth E. Tilton, in March 1938, and moved to South America with him. He was killed in a hunting accident on July 10, 1938, only four months after their marriage, and Jo Eunice was widowed at a very young age. She returned to college at Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas, and graduated with a degree in Library Science. Eunice had a most distinguished career as a librarian. Her career spanned many years and took her from school libraries to law libraries, from the West Coast to finally back in Amarillo Texas. She worked in Amarillo and lived nearby in Panhandle, Texas. Eunice was always a person that was dressed appropriately, with hair that was perfectly styled, makeup meticulously applied, and nails perfectly manicured.
But in her elder years, she was not able to live without assistance, so her sister, Marie, and her husband, Joe, asked her to move to Four Seasons in Norman, Oklahoma, near their home where they could make sure she got the medical care she needed. It was there she once again was an inspiration to the staff and residents. Her sharp mind and interest in others brought inspiration to many. McFarlin Methodist Church in Norman was her church. She was proud to be a member there and their staff ministered to her. Like others in her family, Eunice enjoyed singing alto to a wide variety of music. However hymns were her favorite and she enjoyed the musical times at Four Seasons. She and Marie shared many things as sisters and that bond deepened as Eunice lived her last years in Norman, Oklahoma.
Jo Eunice died at the age of 77 on April 4, 1995, and was buried in the Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma. Photos and biographical information from book entitled Hedgecock and Stowe Family History, published June 2005, Copyright©Nancy Ladd. All rights reserved
