James Samuel Roush, 66, of Sunset Drive, Broadway, Va., died Dec. 21, 2003, at his residence from a brief battle of pancreatic cancer.
He was born Jan. 17, 1937, in Brown Co., Ohio, and was a son of the late Wylie and Katherine White Roush.
He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church. He enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps in 1954, and later joined the U.S. Navy and ended his military duty as a sergeant in the Army National Guard of Illinois. He owned and operated Able Fence Company and also worked part time at Cargill.
On Dec. 31, 1956, he married the former JoAnn Caplinger, who survives.
Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Kathy Roush of Harrisonburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Roush-Dean and Robert Dean of Broadway, Laura Ann and Mark Hisey of Staunton; one brother, Harry Roush of Dayton, Ohio; four sisters, Mary Gore and Ileta Haines, both of Medway, Ohio, Uretta Gore of Aberdeen, Ohio, Carolyn Creech of Ruskin, Fla.; grandchildren and spouse, Rebecca Jill and Brad Showalter, Joseph Roush, Austin Roush, Katelyn Dean; one stepgrandson, Colton Hisey; one great-granddaughter, Desarae Showalter.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wylie Roush Jr. and Robert Roush.
The Rev. Roger Austin and Chaplain Sterling Huggens will conduct a memorial service 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Broadway Baptist Church.
