Lester Lee Bennett, age 89, of Papillion, NE, died at home February 27, 2010.
Born March 15, 1920 to Fayette and Clarenda (Diffee) Bennett in Lambert, Hot Springs County, AR. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Clarissa (Relethford), and two sons: Quentin and William. Reverend Dr. Quentin Bennett and wife Reverend Ticia (Kimmons) and their four daughters, Arvilla Bennett; Amanda with husband Ross Baker; Leslee with husband Lance Patterson; and Patricia Bennett, of Lyons, KS. Also son, William Bennett and wife Mary Jo (Walsh) of Winter Springs, FL; and Lester's Sister, Juanita McCormick of Hot Springs, AR. He is also survived by two great grandsons: James Bennett Baker and Daegan A. Patterson.

VISITATION: Thursday, March 4th 6pm - 8pm at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary, 441 N. Washington Street, Papillion, NE
FUNERAL SERVICES: Friday, March 5th at 10:30am at St. Paul's United Methodist Church - Papillion, 324 S. Jackson Street, Papillion, NE.
INTERNMENT: Cedardale Cemetery, Papillion, NE
Visit with the Family and luncheon follows at St. Paul's United Methodist Church

Sump Memorial Library Large Print Book Fund at the Papillion Branch of the Sarpy County Library, 222 N. Jefferson St., Papillion, NE; The Papillion - LaVista School District - Foundation, 420 S. Washington St., Papillion, NE; or, St. Paul's United Methodist Church- Papillion.

Community activities included: Boys Scouts (Troop 60) as a Troop Leader and earned Order of the Arrow; Papillion Band Parents - Financial Secretary; active at St. Paul's United Methodist Church (trustees, finance committee, choir member, taught Sunday school, worked with MYF). One of the original 9 members to plan and oversee building of the original Papillion Swimming Pool. After retirement, Lester worked as an installation volunteer for Life-Line through Midlands Community Hospital.

With an Induction date of December 8, 1941, Lester entered the Army Air Corps.
He served as a Technical Sargent in the Training Command, spending most of his time training personnel while at Scott Field, IL; Sioux Falls, SD; Yuma, AZ; and Tendall Field in FL. He was honorably discharged December 12, 1945. In January 1946, he entered the University of Arkansas to obtain a Bachelors Electrical Engineering, graduating in 1950. Lester and Clarissa married June 1, 1948 while both were at the University. From there he took a job with the Air Force Training Command - Scott Field, IL, teaching radio communications. While there, he taught electronics at the community college and he completed his Masters Degree at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, attending class evenings and weekends.

He transferred to Strategic Air Command Headquarters - Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha, NE to begin as one of their first computer analysts. He retired in 1984 from the position of Assistant to the Director of Plans and Programs. His favorite pastimes were fishing, gardening, reading, and walking
