James L. "Jim" Cogdell, 84, passed away Monday, March 1, 2010, in Granbury.
Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Granbury. Interment: Holly Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wiley Funeral Home.
Mr. Cogdell was born Nov. 12, 1925, in Granbury to James Pinkney Cogdell and Opal Irene Davis Cogdell. Jim grew up in Granbury and attended Granbury schools. He served in the Merchant Marine, U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a certified welder in shipbuilding yards. He returned to Granbury in 1988 after retirement, and was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Brotherhood of Elks. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, he loved to travel and enjoyed working in church and community organizations. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine, and a brother, Billy Joe.
Survivors: Wife of 38 1/2 years, Cora Cogdell of Granbury; sons, Zane Cogdell and wife, Darcy, Leslie Cogdell and wife, Ginny, Bill English and David English and wife, Susan; five grandsons; five granddaughters; sisters, Theresa Wiggins, Katrina Walsh; many nieces and nephews in Washington; cousins in Fort Worth and Granbury; and friends everywhere.
